Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign matches last approximately forty minutes, leaving insufficient time for players to write or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there's not enough time to send or read messages, so we removed the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This choice is notable given the prominent role messaging has played in past FromSoftware games, enhancing player interaction and enjoyment. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To preserve the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features an independent narrative. It offers a distinct adventure with new challenges and encounters, while retaining the signature atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
