Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Debut: One Million Copies Sold in a Day
A Resounding Success Across Platforms
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has achieved remarkable success since its February 4, 2025 launch, boasting impressive sales figures and overwhelmingly positive reviews across all gaming platforms. Developer Warhorse Studios proudly announced that the game surpassed one million copies sold within its first 24 hours, a feat significantly outpacing its predecessor, which reached the same milestone in over nine days.
SteamDB data reveals a concurrent player count exceeding 176,285 within a six-hour period, dwarfing the original KCD's peak of 96,069. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent 12th position among PlayStation games in the U.S. as listed on the PlayStation Store homepage. OpenCritic awarded the game a "Mighty" rating, boasting an 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Addressing Criticisms and Online Backlash
While largely praised by both critics and gamers, KCD2 has also faced some negative reviews and criticisms. Creative Director Daniel Vávra publicly acknowledged these dissenting opinions on Twitter (X), specifically addressing several reviews that he felt were unduly harsh or based on flawed criteria. Some outlets described the gameplay as tedious or unnecessarily complex. Vávra responded to these criticisms, subtly questioning the journalistic integrity of those involved.
Vávra also actively countered online attacks targeting the game's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He refuted claims of historical inaccuracy and promoted positive reviews while urging players to report automated negative comments on review aggregation sites like Metacritic. He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional and depends on player choices within the game's expansive open-world medieval setting.
