CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new locales and monstrous adversaries in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Expands its World with New Regions and Monsters
Village and Monster Names from the Reveal Trailer Confirmed
Following The Game Awards 2024, a conversation between Gamertag Radio co-host Parris and The Witcher 4's director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024) unveiled the game's expansion into uncharted territories and the introduction of fresh, fearsome creatures.
Ciri's journey, while following in Geralt's footsteps, will lead players to previously unexplored regions of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village showcased in the trailer as "Stromford," a place where unsettling rituals involve the sacrifice of young girls to appease their "god."
This "god," revealed to be a monster named "Bauk," is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky, tricky, tricky bastard" that instills terror in its victims. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a host of other new monsters to challenge them.
While enthusiastic about the new areas and monsters in The Witcher 4, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising only that players will experience "something completely new" within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be roughly comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north of the Continent, Ciri's adventures will take her beyond the areas explored by Geralt.
Significant Advancements in NPC Design and Interaction
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant improvements to the game's non-playable characters (NPCs). Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the apparent diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba responded that each NPC will have a unique life and story, emphasizing the impact of close-knit communities like Stromford on how NPCs interact with Ciri and others.
CD Projekt Red is enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these revelations point towards enhanced NPC interactions and a more believable, engaging world. For more on The Witcher 4, check out our dedicated article!
