Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided an update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, confirming smooth progress despite past challenges.
Obsidian's Confidence in Upcoming Releases
In a Limit Break Network interview, Urquhart stated that The Outer Worlds 2 development is progressing well, praising the dedicated team's expertise and experience with the original game. He acknowledged past difficulties, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio's acquisition by Microsoft, which led to simultaneous development of multiple titles (Grounded, Pentiment). This period, he admitted, presented significant challenges. There were even discussions about halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus resources on Avowed. However, Obsidian persevered, completing all projects successfully.
Urquhart highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed confidence in the progress of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific details remain undisclosed, the delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.
Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates, leading to speculation about potential delays. Urquhart acknowledged this possibility but reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. While initial timelines may not be met, he assured fans that both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed will eventually be released for PC and Xbox Series S/X.
