Deltarune Chapter 4 is almost ready, but the release is still a ways off, according to a recent update from creator Toby Fox. This update, shared in his latest newsletter, offers insights into the game's progress and the challenges of a multi-platform, multilingual release.

Chapter 4: Near Completion, but Polishing Remains

Toby Fox, the mind behind Undertale, confirmed that Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are targeting a simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4. While Chapter 4 is nearly finished—all maps are complete, and battles are playable—it still needs some fine-tuning. Fox highlighted minor improvements needed for cutscenes, battle balancing and visuals, background enhancements, and refinements to ending sequences in a couple of battles. Despite this, he considers Chapter 4 largely playable, and initial feedback from playtesters has been positive.

The complexity of releasing a paid game across multiple platforms and languages is a significant factor delaying the release. Fox emphasized the need for perfection, especially given this is their first major paid release since Undertale. Before launch, the team must complete several key tasks: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing.

Chapter 3 development is already finished (as per Fox's February newsletter), and while Chapter 4 is being polished, early work on Chapter 5 has begun, including map creation and bullet pattern design.
Although a specific release date remains unannounced, Fox offered fans a preview of Ralsei and Rouxls' dialogue, Elnina's character description, and a new item: the GingerGuard. While the extended wait since Chapter 2 might disappoint some, the increased scope and Fox's confirmation that Chapters 3 and 4 combined are longer than Chapters 1 and 2 together, has fueled excitement.
Fox is optimistic that future chapter releases will be more streamlined once Chapters 3 and 4 launch.
