Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse range of characters, known as Breakers, each with unique playstyles to combat the formidable Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward, yet the process isn't explicitly detailed in-game. This guide will walk you through how to unlock new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker. We'll keep this guide updated as more characters become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before you can face these bosses, you must first acquire Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can find Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter. Here, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to make them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in the game, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker comes equipped with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, defining their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles:
Vermillion
Vermillion is the starting character, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat capabilities. His Rail shots have a chance to crit, and if they do, the next shot is guaranteed to crit as well.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers better defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, which increases the damage of her Rail shots after picking up a Battery. Her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which enhances her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis is formidable with either SyCom, but the Warrior SyCom makes her exceptionally powerful in the long run, outshining other Breakers in terms of raw stats and turning her into a true powerhouse.
Goro
Goro is designed for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up the charging of his Blade skills while shooting. His unlockable Sniper SyCom increases his critical hit rate, making him a high-risk, high-reward character.
Goro falls into the ranged glass cannon category, offering higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro can be challenging, but with the right strategy, he can be an incredibly effective fighter.
