Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative title, first hinted at in 2018, is finally taking shape at Gallium Studio.
A Deep Dive into Personal Memories
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's unique approach to interactive storytelling. Proxi allows players to input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated 3D scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the representation of their memories using in-game assets.
Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands with new mems, it populates with Proxies—AI representations of friends and family—connected to relevant memories on a customizable timeline. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating "magical connections" with memories, prioritizing a deeply personal player experience. He humorously noted his design philosophy: "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." The more the game centers on the player's own experiences, the more engaging it becomes.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
