Sony recently shed light on the cause of a significant PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that disrupted service for nearly a full day over the weekend. According to a social media update, the issue stemmed from an "operational problem," though the company did not elaborate on the specifics or outline measures to prevent future occurrences.
To make amends, Sony is offering PlayStation Plus subscribers an additional five days of subscription, which will be automatically added to their accounts.
During the outage, gamers faced numerous challenges, with over a third unable to log in and many others reporting server crashes, severely impacting their gameplay experience.
The necessity of a PSN account for even single-player games on PC has been a point of contention among players, and this recent outage has only reinforced these concerns.
This incident is not Sony's first brush with PSN downtime. A notable precedent was the massive data breach in April 2011, which resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues. While the current situation is less severe, PS5 users are expressing dissatisfaction with Sony's lack of detailed communication and solutions.
