PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a splash at CES 2025, announcing a significant expansion of its video game adaptation pipeline. The January 7th presentation revealed several projects currently in development, spanning various genres and platforms.

New Adaptations Announced:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Series: A new anime series based on the popular Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode, Legends, is in the works, a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Aniplex. Directed by Takanobu Mizumo with story composition by Gen Urobuchi, and featuring a soundtrack partnership with Sony Music, the series is slated for a Crunchyroll exclusive premiere in 2027.

• Horizon Zero Dawn Film: Sony Pictures will produce a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.

• Helldivers 2 Film: Columbia Pictures is tackling a film adaptation of Helldivers 2. Details on both films remain scarce.

• Until Dawn Film: A film adaptation of Until Dawn is set for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two: Neil Druckmann revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, confirming its adaptation of the storyline from The Last of Us Part II, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Ongoing Projects:

PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has already seen success with adaptations like Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023), both performing strongly at the box office. The Twisted Metal series, while not universally acclaimed, completed production of its second season in late 2024, though a release date is pending.

Beyond the CES announcements, PlayStation Productions continues work on adaptations of Days Gone, a sequel to Uncharted, and a God of War TV series, though details remain limited.

The continued expansion of PlayStation Productions suggests a growing commitment to translating the popular PlayStation franchises into other media, driven by both audience demand and the proven financial viability of these adaptations.
