Grand Theft Auto 6 remains firmly scheduled for a fall 2025 release, according to Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games. In their financial report for the third quarter ending December 31, 2024, Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, maintaining its previously announced release window without any delays.
In a pre-financial report interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed cautious optimism about the release timeline. "Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things," Zelnick stated, adding, "So we feel really good about it [fall 2025]."
When pressed for details on the development progress of GTA 6, Zelnick remained tight-lipped, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding the game. "Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally," he remarked. "We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."
The release date of GTA 6 continues to be a focal point in the entertainment industry, with competitors like EA closely monitoring Rockstar's moves. EA CEO Andrew Wilson hinted at potentially delaying the new Battlefield game based on GTA 6's release schedule, underscoring the significant impact GTA 6 is expected to have on the market.

In related news, Take-Two reported that Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold an astounding 210 million units worldwide, with GTA Online experiencing a strong quarter driven by the Agents of Sabotage update. GTA+ memberships also saw a 10% year-over-year increase. Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million in sales, with Take-Two noting record levels of concurrent players on Steam.
Take-Two's 2025 lineup is packed, featuring the recently released Civilization 7 from Firaxis, PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in the summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Gearbox's Borderlands 4 before the year ends. "We are exceedingly optimistic about the commercial potential of our titles and believe that they will have a transformative effect on our business – and our industry – over the long term," Take-Two stated, expressing high confidence in achieving record levels of Net Bookings in fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
