A Decade-Long Development

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Confirms Release Date Announcement and Gameplay Reveal

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s development has been a long and winding road, with numerous delays pushing back the release date by nearly a decade. Development began in 2015, following the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, BioWare’s focus shifted to Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, diverting resources and talent away from the project—then codenamed "Joplin." Moreover, as the initial design didn’t align with the company’s push towards live-service games, development was halted entirely.

It wasn’t until 2018 that The Veilguard was revived under the codename "Morrison." After years of development, the game was formally announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022 before adopting its current title.

Despite these setbacks, the wait is nearly over. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this fall. However, mark your calendars for later, because the wait for Thedas is about to get a whole lot shorter.
