Assassin's Creed Shadows: One Protagonist Is Enough, Says Lead Developer
Concerns have arisen among fans regarding Assassin's Creed Shadows' dual protagonists: Naoe, a female shinobi, and Yasuke, a historical African samurai. Some worried that focusing on a single character would lead to missing crucial story elements or gameplay.
Creative director Jonathan Dumont addressed these concerns, stating that while each protagonist boasts unique introductory sequences and personal storylines, the core game experience remains largely consistent regardless of player choice. Dumont himself plays both characters fairly evenly, switching approximately every 3-5 hours.
He assures players: "I don’t believe you’ll miss out on a lot. It really comes down to personal playstyle. You might experiment to see how the game adapts. Each hero has their own unique beginning and dedicated quests, but the main experience is adaptable. Choose your favorite; the narrative will adjust." This confirms that players won't be significantly disadvantaged by focusing on just one character.
