Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer of the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.
Tencent's Expanded Investment in Kuro Games

Tencent's share in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, securing a controlling stake. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external shareholder.
Maintaining Operational Independence
Despite this significant investment, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This model mirrors Tencent's relationships with other successful game studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement highlights the acquisition as fostering a "more stable external environment" and supporting its long-term independence strategy. Tencent has yet to release an official statement.
Kuro Games' Successful Titles
Kuro Games is a prominent Chinese developer known for its acclaimed action RPG, Punishing: Gray Raven, and the recently released open-world adventure RPG, Wuthering Waves. Both games have achieved considerable success, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue and receiving ongoing updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination for The Game Awards.
