In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, you'll battle across ancient China alongside various warlords before ultimately pledging allegiance to one. This guide explains faction selection.
Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The game unfolds in chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, your character, as a neutral party. You'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, participating in key events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.
Chapter 3 presents the crucial faction choice. Before this point, you'll have opportunities to familiarize yourself with each faction through battles.
To ally with a faction, complete a specific number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Completing these unlocks a mission forcing you to choose a side. Only factions with completed missions are selectable. You can, however, complete all faction missions before making your final decision.

Your choice is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes inaccessible for the remainder of the game; you can no longer accept side quests from their officers, hindering your bond and potentially increasing difficulty. For example, allying with Liu Bei, whose faction initially has fewer officers, limits skill point acquisition opportunities from side quests.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a save before choosing a kingdom and reload it to explore other alliances.
Faction selection in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, is thus a strategic decision impacting gameplay and available content.
