Stellar Blade, initially a PlayStation exclusive, is officially coming to PC in 2025! This announcement follows speculation sparked by hints from SHIFT UP's CFO earlier this year. Learn more about the PC release and its potential PSN requirement.
PC Release Confirmed for 2025
SHIFT UP, the developer, confirmed the PC release during a recent financial earnings report, citing the growing PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong as key factors. While a specific release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity through various strategies. These include a collaboration DLC with NieR: Automata (releasing November 20th), the addition of a Photo Mode (also launching November 20th), and ongoing marketing initiatives.
Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Stellar Blade's status as a Sony-published title, with SHIFT UP acting as a second-party developer, raises the possibility of a PSN account requirement for PC players. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions lacking PSN access. Sony's stated reason for this practice is to ensure the "safe" enjoyment of its live-service games, a justification questioned by many given its application to single-player titles.
However, because SHIFT UP retains IP ownership, a PSN link might not be mandatory. The necessity of a PSN account remains uncertain, but its implementation could potentially impact PC sales, which SHIFT UP aims to surpass console sales.
