Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Hollywood Treatment

At CES 2025, Sony unveiled exciting news for gamers and moviegoers alike: a film adaptation of its highly successful game, Helldivers 2. This collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures promises to bring the explosive space battles of the game to the big screen.

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the announcement, stating, "We're thrilled to confirm that production has commenced on a movie based on our incredibly popular Helldivers 2." While specific details remain under wraps, fans can anticipate a visually stunning cinematic experience.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter game reminiscent of the classic Star Troopers franchise. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the remarkable feat of selling 12 million copies within its first 12 weeks, solidifying its place as PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further fueled its popularity.

Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.

Qizilbash offered a glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
