Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change and is now officially called Ananta.
Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period without updates. Further details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:
The Name Change Explained (Or Not)
The developers haven't yet commented on the reason for the name change. Interestingly, "Ananta" means infinite in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (infinite). The Chinese title also supports this thematic consistency.
The gaming community is divided on the name change, but universally relieved the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, its lack of gameplay footage puts it at a disadvantage for some. Personally, I find Ananta's visuals more captivating.
A Curious Turn of Events
Surprisingly, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This decision to abandon established accounts has left many gamers puzzled.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator confronting paranormal threats. The cast includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
