Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has expressed that while he is not ready to make any official announcements, he has not ruled out the development of Evil Genius 3. The franchise is particularly dear to him, and he is currently pondering ways to elevate it to new heights. Kingsley believes that the theme of world domination, central to the series, could extend beyond the base-building simulator genre into other strategic game formats. Although specific projects are still in the conceptual stage, the team at Rebellion is brimming with new ideas to shape the future of the franchise.
Released in 2021, Evil Genius 2 garnered "mostly positive" reviews from critics on Metacritic. However, the game faced a different reception from the general player base upon its release. Despite enhancements in graphics and efforts to correct previous shortcomings, many players felt that the sequel did not live up to the standards set by the original Evil Genius. Criticisms were widespread, particularly focusing on the global map, the decline in the quality of minions, and issues with various in-game structures, among other elements.
