Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn, if you played exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom. This synergy extends to regular Doctor Doom as well.
The strategy revolves around playing one card per turn to maximize DoomBot 2099 deployment. A perfectly played Doom 2099 can generate significant power, especially if played early or with cards like Magik to extend the game. However, the random placement of DoomBots is a risk, potentially handing your opponent location control. Enchantress, having recently received a buff, poses a significant counter, negating the DoomBot's power boost.
Doctor Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes him a natural fit for Spectrum-style ongoing decks. Here are two examples:
Deck 1: Spectrum-focused Ongoing Deck
This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early game plays like Psylocke or Electro can set up powerful Doom 2099 plays. If the early game doesn't go as planned, you can pivot to a strategy centered around spreading power with regular Doctor Doom and Spectrum. Cosmo provides crucial protection against Enchantress.
Deck 2: Patriot-style Deck
This equally affordable deck utilizes a Patriot strategy, deploying cards like Mister Sinister and Brood early. Doctor Doom 2099 follows, with Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom providing further power boosts. Zabu provides cost reduction for early game plays. This deck is less vulnerable to Enchantress but is susceptible to Super Skrull, a likely counter in the early meta.
