If you're new to Dead Sails, don't fret. Similar to its predecessor Dead Rails, the game is straightforward—you're the captain of a ship tasked with sailing a straight line for 10 thousand meters between towns, aiming to reach the ultimate goal of 100k meters. The key is to keep moving, maintain your fuel, and stay alive. Sounds simple, right?

Before You Set Sail

The in-game lobby before you embark on your journey can be quite beneficial, albeit at a cost. As a new player, you start with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency. While it's tempting to spend on boats or items like bandages and weapons, remember you'll find plenty of these in-game. Instead, consider using your Dabloons wisely.

How To Choose A Class

We recommend investing your 15 Dabloons in a class. These are in-game perks you purchase in a loot box style, costing 3 Dabloons each. You might get lucky and snag a class you enjoy on your first try. Options include Common and Uncommon classes like Pirate and Gunslinger, but your choice should align with your play style. For a detailed breakdown, check out our Dead Sails Class Tierlist.

What To Do In Towns

Upon starting a round, you'll find yourself in a town where your ship is docked. These towns appear every 10 thousand meters and serve as safe havens, offering various amenities:

  • Trading Hut: Sell collected items.
  • General Store: Purchase items to aid your journey.
  • Hospital: Heal yourself.
  • Gun Shop: Buy guns and ammunition.
  • Sheriff’s: Earn bounty money from pirate and creature corpses.

Starting with a blunt weapon like a pickaxe or hammer, there's no immediate need for a firearm. However, prioritize buying coal—spend all your money on it, as fuel is crucial in Dead Sails. Without it, your journey ends.

Dead Sails Tips & Tricks

The gameplay is simple, yet you'll encounter various buildings and structures, and face attacks from undead creatures. Here are the key tips to master the game:

Tips For Never Running Out Of Fuel

In Dead Sails, coal is your lifeline, adding 20 percent more fuel per chunk. You could theoretically finish the game by buying 5 coal pieces in each town, but where's the fun in that? Collect items marked as "fuel" for a 5 percent increase, but the most efficient way to fuel up is by using the corpses of the undead you defeat. Don't let their bodies go to waste—add them to your inventory.

How To Survive The Night

Nighttime in Dead Sails ramps up the difficulty, with reduced visibility making you vulnerable to attacks. If you die, it's game over. Ideally, spend the night in town for safety. If that's not possible, buy Barbed Wire from a shop to mount on your ship, deterring mobs. Without Barbed Wire, pause your journey and attack any approaching creatures.

Which Weapon To Choose

Weapon choice is personal, but as you face stronger enemies, you'll need more powerful weapons. A shotgun is highly recommended for its damage output, ideal for unexpected combat. Early on, a revolver is a good choice to familiarize yourself with firearms, often found in buildings.

Best Items To Collect

With a limited inventory of 10 items, prioritize these:

  • Moyai and Bars: Available in diamond, gold, and silver, these are lucrative.
  • Healing Packs: Keep these for emergencies rather than selling.
  • Crosses: Sell for 35 cash or use against the undead.
  • Weapons: Use or sell as needed.
  • Robot Head: Found in houses and banks, sells for 45 cash.
  • Holy Water: Found in churches, sells for 25 cash.
  • Gold Llama: Rare and valuable, sells for 150 cash.

Remember, you can stack items on your boat, but they'll fall off if not welded. Use the weld button (Z on the keyboard) to secure them.

And that's your beginner's guide to Dead Sails! Follow these tips to become the ultimate captain on these treacherous waters. For an extra edge, don't forget to check out our Dead Sails codes.
