Matajuegos is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Atuel, their surrealist documentary game, on PC and Android later this year! The Steam page is now live, allowing players to pre-register. The Google Play listing will follow shortly.
Developed by the Argentinian indie co-op, Matajuegos, Atuel initially launched on itch.io in September 2022, quickly captivating audiences with its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking dreamlike visuals. The game's innovative approach earned it the prestigious ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award’ at IndieCade 2022, among other accolades. Atuel has also been showcased at prominent events such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Exploring the Atuel River Valley
Atuel immerses players in the stunning yet climate-change-affected Atuel River Valley in Argentina. This isn't your typical game; it's an experience. You'll shapeshift into various animals and elements within the ecosystem, becoming one with the landscape. Soar through the skies as a bird, then flow as the river itself—a truly unique journey.
The game features compelling real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and locals, providing insightful perspectives on the region's history, current state, and its future shaped by climate change. Matajuegos collaborated with The 12.01 Project, an international documentary team, to bring these stories to life.
Inspired by the Cuyo desert, Atuel's visuals are simply captivating, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. The game's stunning landscapes are a key part of its immersive quality.
While you wait for Android pre-registration to open, visit the Steam page or the official website for more information. The mobile version will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support upon release.
