Fans of The Witcher series will need to wait longer for the next installment, as CD Projekt has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not be released in 2026. Dive into the latest updates and development news surrounding this eagerly anticipated game.
The Witcher 4 Will Not Come Out in 2026
No Specific Release Window Yet

CD Projekt Red has set the record straight: The Witcher 4 won't be hitting the shelves within the next two years. During their fiscal year 2024 earnings presentation, the studio shared that while they aim to meet certain financial goals through share-based incentive programs by the end of 2026, The Witcher 4 won't be part of this timeline.
In the Q&A session that followed, CD Projekt Red's Chief Financial Officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, reiterated that they would not disclose a precise launch date for The Witcher 4. He emphasized that the game's release would not occur before the end of the first target period for the incentive program, which concludes on December 31, 2026.
Full Speed Ahead in Production

While fans may need to temper their expectations for an early release, The Witcher 4 is making significant strides in its development. The game, initially announced as Project Polaris in 2022, entered "full production" last year, as per CD Projekt's Q3 financial update. Nielubowicz expressed optimism about the project's progress, stating, "Of all our projects, this one [Project Polaris/The Witcher 4] is currently the most far along, and we're starting the most intensive phase of development. I wish to thank the team for its effort and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for further progress."
The Witcher 4, officially revealed at The Game Awards 2024 with a stunning six-minute cinematic trailer, marks a new chapter for the series. It introduces Ciri, Geralt of Rivia's adoptive daughter, as the new protagonist, showcasing her growth and readiness to follow in Geralt's footsteps.

As announced by CD Projekt on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022, The Witcher 4 is the first of a new trilogy. The subsequent titles, Project Canis Majoris and Project Orion, are planned to be released within a six-year window following The Witcher 4's launch.
