According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for its popular Harry Potter adventure game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion, which was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game, was reportedly scrapped due to concerns over the content's value relative to the proposed price point. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made significant moves including the cancellation of a planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the developing studio, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, reflecting a strategic focus on developing fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
