Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the game's closure.
In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.
The official reason for the shutdown remains undisclosed. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a broader strategic shift affecting their mobile titles.
What Happens to In-Game Purchases?
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. haven't yet commented on refunds for in-game purchases. They've promised further information soon; follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.
Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (and announced the previous October), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a unique entry in the series. Unlike previous installments, it's an action-adventure beat 'em up RPG, not solely focused on fighting.
Blending intense combat with a cinematic storyline, the game shares similarities with free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players team up with Raiden to stop the fallen Elder God Shinnok from regaining his power.
