Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O: A Winter Steam Debut
Virtua Fighter's First Steam Appearance
SEGA is bringing the legendary Virtua Fighter series to Steam for the very first time with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This highly anticipated remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, marking its fifth major iteration. While a precise release date remains under wraps, SEGA confirms a winter launch.
Despite its numerous previous releases, SEGA proudly proclaims Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O as the "ultimate remaster" of this classic 3D fighter. Key features include rollback netcode for smooth online battles, stunning 4K graphics with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps framerate for unparalleled fluidity.
Classic modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus return, complemented by exciting additions. Players can now organize custom online tournaments and leagues for up to 16 participants, and a new Spectator Mode lets players observe matches and learn new strategies.
The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, even for a fifth iteration. Enthusiastic comments include, "Am I buying another Virtua Fighter 5? Absolutely!" PC gamers are especially thrilled with this release, although some fans continue to express their desire for Virtua Fighter 6. One humorous comment reads, "Sega will release VF6 only after a post-apocalyptic, internet-less WW3!"
Initially Mistaken for Virtua Fighter 6
Earlier this month, a VGC interview fueled speculation about Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, hinted at several legacy titles in development, including another Virtua Fighter game. However, this sparked anticipation for a new entry in the series.
The November 22nd Steam listing for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, showcasing enhanced visuals, new modes, and rollback netcode, quickly dispelled those rumors.
The Classic Fighting Game Returns
Virtua Fighter 5 initially debuted on SEGA Lindbergh arcade cabinets in July 2006, later making its way to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The storyline follows the Fifth World Fighting Tournament, with J6 or Judgement 6 issuing invitations to the world's top fighters. The original game featured 17 fighters, expanding to 19 in later versions, including Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
Following its initial launch, Virtua Fighter 5 received various updates and remasters to enhance the experience and reach a wider audience:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O's modernized visuals and features offer a fresh and exciting experience for longtime fans.
