Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025
Valve has announced a change in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, moving towards larger, less frequent patches. This shift follows a year of consistent updates in 2024. While the news may disappoint some players anticipating continuous smaller updates, Valve aims to improve its development process and allow more time for significant changes to settle before subsequent releases.
The decision comes as Deadlock, a free-to-play MOBA hero shooter, continues to gain traction since its early 2024 Steam release. Its unique steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have helped it stand out in a competitive market, including against the popular Marvel Rivals. The game's recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay adjustments, hints at future limited-time events and larger content drops.
According to a statement from Valve developer Yoshi on the official Deadlock Discord, the previous bi-weekly update cycle proved challenging for internal iteration and external adjustment. The new approach will prioritize substantial patches, spaced further apart, with hotfixes still deployed as needed. This change will make updates feel more like events than incremental tweaks.
Deadlock currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 with the Hero Labs mode. Its innovative anti-cheat measures and diverse character roster have contributed to its success. While an official release date remains unconfirmed, further Deadlock news is expected in 2025.
