Persona 5: The Phantom X Playtest Appears on SteamDB

Persona 5: The Phantom X was recently listed on SteamDB, prompting fan speculation about a global release of the highly anticipated gacha game.

P5X Playtest Page on SteamDB Fuels Global Release SpeculationP5X Playtest Listed on October 15, 2024

Recently, Persona 5: The Phantom X (also known as P5X) appeared on SteamDB, a popular game database. This fueled speculation of a worldwide PC release. However, while playable in parts of Asia since its April release, the SteamDB listing doesn't guarantee an imminent global launch.

The SteamDB page, titled "PERSONA5 THE PHANTOM X Playtest," was created on October 15, 2024, and shows limited access—perhaps by playtesters, as suggested by the username "pwtest." The beta currently seems inaccessible; the store-page button redirects to Steam’s homepage.

P5X Playtest SteamDB Listing Likely Prepping for JP Release

Currently, P5X is available in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea. While popular in these areas, significant demand exists for a global release, especially in Western markets.

Atlus, SEGA, and Perfect World confirmed broader release plans at a Shanghai event on July 12, 2024. SEGA's financial report for fiscal year ending March 2024 mentioned P5X's "future expansion in Japan and globally is under consideration." However, specifics remain undisclosed.

While Western release hopes remain, initial announcements on Twitter (X) on September 25 and at Tokyo Game Show 2024 focused on Japan's mobile and Steam launches. The SteamDB page may thus indicate a Japanese release, not immediate Western expansion.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Playtest Appears on SteamDB

SEGA has been reticent regarding the game’s international launch, and it’s unclear when—or if—the game will expand beyond Japan and other Asian regions. Still, given the excitement surrounding the game’s Japan-only playtest and its high profile at events like Tokyo Game Show 2024, a global launch seems more like a matter of "when" rather than "if."

In the meantime, fans can take comfort in the fact that Persona 5: The Phantom X will also feature a strong lineup of collaborations with other Persona titles. Expect crossover events with Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Reload as the game continues to expand.
