Sony has announced that starting in January 2026, it will no longer include PlayStation 4 games in its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and the Games Catalog, shifting its focus entirely to PlayStation 5 titles. This change was disclosed in a PlayStation Blog post that also detailed February 2025's monthly game lineup.
The company stated, "As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog." Importantly, this decision does not impact the PS4 games that subscribers have already claimed. However, PS4 titles within the Games Catalog will remain available until they are rotated out as part of the monthly updates.
Sony is committed to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, promising to continue optimizing subscriber benefits, including exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and online game save storage. "As we shift our focus to PS5, we look forward to adding new PS5 titles monthly for you to enjoy," the company added.
The PS4, which launched in 2013, has been succeeded by the PS5, released in 2020. Sony noted that "many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles."
It remains uncertain whether Sony will move PS4 games to the Classics Catalog, which currently features ports and remasters of games from the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 eras. Any changes to this catalog are expected to be announced as the implementation date approaches.
