A New Official Reveal Trailer

The March 13, 2025 Silent Hill Transmission offered fans a fresh look at Silent Hill f, including a captivating new trailer. Breaking from tradition, the game is set in 1960s Japan.

The game's narrative centers on Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life is irrevocably altered when her town is enveloped in a terrifying, transformative fog. Hinako must navigate a drastically changed landscape, solving puzzles, battling unsettling enemies, and ultimately confronting a deeply personal, agonizing choice. This is a story of confronting a beautiful, yet terrifying decision.

Silent Hill f unfolds in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by a real-world location in Kanayama, Gero, Gifu Prefecture. The developers meticulously recreated the town, capturing its intricate alleyways using reference photos, ambient sounds of daily life, and historical materials to accurately reflect its 1960s atmosphere.

Finding Beauty in Terror

According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, the core concept behind Silent Hill f is to "find the beauty in terror." While retaining the series' signature psychological horror, the team aimed to explore the unique potential of a Japanese setting and its associated thematic nuances.

Okamoto explains, "Japanese horror often presents terror within beauty. The excessive perfection of something can be profoundly unsettling. Players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl facing a beautiful yet terrifying choice."

A Standalone Silent Hill Story

Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f is a self-contained narrative, accessible even to newcomers to the franchise. Long-time fans, however, can expect subtle Easter eggs woven throughout. The game's appeal extends to fans of writer Ryukishi07, renowned for his psychological Japanese horror visual novels.

A longtime Silent Hill aficionado, Ryukishi07, having played every game in the series, describes the development process as a return to the series' roots while simultaneously presenting new challenges. A key hurdle was creating a true Silent Hill experience outside the familiar titular town.

He states, "From a creator's perspective, I confidently believe we've made a Silent Hill game. However, we're eager to hear the opinions of long-time fans and see if they agree."

Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date is yet to be announced. For the latest updates on Silent Hill f, check out our related article!
