Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become Atlus' flagship title.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already developing their next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the highest concurrent player count for a platform launch to date, surpassing 85,961 players. This significantly outperforms Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
