Unlocking the Secrets of the Pokemon GO Tour Pass: A Comprehensive Guide
Many Pokemon GO players are buzzing about the new Tour Pass, especially its free version. This guide breaks down what the Tour Pass is, how to earn rewards, and the benefits of the paid Deluxe version.
What is the Pokemon GO Tour Pass?
The Tour Pass is a new feature debuting with the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova global event (February 24th, 10 AM local time). It's a tiered system where players earn Tour Points by completing in-game tasks. These points unlock rewards, boost rank, and enhance event bonuses.
The standard Tour Pass is free for all players. However, a paid Tour Pass Deluxe option is available for $14.99 USD (or local equivalent), offering an immediate Victini encounter, superior rewards, and accelerated progression.

Earning and Utilizing Tour Points
Tour Points are earned through familiar in-game activities: catching Pokemon, participating in raids, hatching eggs, and completing daily Pass Tasks. Accumulating points unlocks rewards like Pokemon encounters, Candy, Poke Balls, and more. Higher ranks also increase Catch XP bonuses during the event:
- Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
- Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
- Tier 4: 3x Catch XP
While Niantic remains tight-lipped about all rewards, the free pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a unique background.

The Tour Pass Deluxe offers a unique final reward: the Lucky Trinket. This single-use item transforms a Great Friend or higher into a Lucky Friend, enabling a Lucky Pokemon trade without requiring Best Friend status. Note: Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova expire on March 9, 2025.
