NieR: Automata - Where To Get Filler Metal

Quick Links

Obtaining certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata proves more challenging than others. Many are enemy drops, but some only appear as random world spawns. These spawns are unpredictable, introducing an element of chance into farming.

Filler Metal is one such material, accessible early in the game through exploration, though it requires significant effort. Alternatively, later in the game, it's available for purchase, albeit at a high cost.

Locating Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is a rare item found in specific spawn points deep within the Factory. These locations vary with each playthrough, and Filler Metal has the lowest spawn rate compared to other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point after progressing through the main story provides an efficient starting point for searching.

Note that you might need to revisit and unlock the Factory: Hanger access point again depending on your story progress.

While increased movement speed aids farming, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawning items. However, purchasing it directly offers a more straightforward, albeit expensive, solution.

Purchasing Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is exclusively sold by the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park, but only after completing one of the game's final endings (requiring all three playthroughs). Accessing this Shopkeeper via Chapter Select after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.

Despite the high cost, purchasing remains a more reliable method than repeatedly scouring the Factory. The Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for completing the game, as enemy levels can otherwise surpass your capabilities.
