Get ready for another round of fatalities! The sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot is officially on its way, and we've just gotten our first glimpse of a major addition to the cast: Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster featuring Urban as the iconic Hollywood actor and Mortal Kombat fighter. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage movie, complete with the over-the-top action we've come to expect from the character—including, naturally, motorcycles erupting from flames.
Mortal Kombat 2 builds directly upon the 2021 film, starring Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Joining the fray are several new cast members, including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

The original film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat universe and the long-standing conflict between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the vast lore of the Mortal Kombat video games provides ample source material for the filmmakers.
The first film faced release delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ultimately debuting on HBO Max. However, Mortal Kombat 2 will enjoy a theatrical release on October 24, 2025.
Our review of the first film awarded it a 7/10, praising its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
