Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, was unexpectedly removed from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This ban, affecting other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8, caught players off guard, leaving many frustrated by the lack of prior warning and continued in-app purchases.
While Steam users can still access the game on PC, the sudden unavailability has sparked widespread player outrage over authorization issues. Second Dinner has publicly expressed surprise and is actively working to restore the game's accessibility. An official statement on Platform X assures players: "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
Interestingly, the ban's impact on other ByteDance apps is inconsistent. While Marvel Snap was removed, titles like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.
The recent addition of the Moonstone card, a powerful Ongoing archetype card, adds another layer to the situation. Moonstone's ability to copy the ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards makes her a potentially game-changing addition, even amidst the controversy surrounding the game's availability. Her unique strength lies in freely acquiring these effects, unlike other low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily focus on power generation. The existing pool of low-cost Ongoing cards already provides a significant base for Moonstone's potential.
