The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, 2024, for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with backward compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment are bringing the first two Lunar games to modern consoles and PC via Steam.
This remastered duology boasts updated visuals, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Features include fully voiced dialogue in English and Japanese, with added French and German subtitles, a classic mode to recapture the original aesthetic, and enhanced gameplay mechanics such as faster combat and auto-battle options. These additions, now commonplace in JRPG remasters (similar to Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster), aim to modernize the experience while preserving the nostalgic charm. The collection also includes widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes.
Initially announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, the Lunar Remastered Collection surprised and delighted many long-time fans of the series, which debuted in 1992 with Lunar: The Silver Star for the Sega CD. The success of this collection remains to be seen, but the developers' previous collaboration on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European retailers.
