Honor of Kings Unveils Major Esports Plans for 2025
Following its global launch, Honor of Kings is making waves in 2025. Key announcements include a first-time invitational tournament in the Philippines (February 21st - March 1st) and, most significantly, the global adoption of a ban & pick format for Season Three and all future tournaments.
This global rollout of the ban & pick system adds a strategic layer to the game. Once a hero is selected by a team in a match, that hero is ineligible for use by that same team for the remainder of the tournament. This restriction applies only to the team that initially used the hero, not their opponents.
The impact of this change is substantial, especially considering many players specialize in a limited roster of heroes. The decision-making process now necessitates greater team coordination and strategic foresight. Players must weigh the benefits of using a familiar, mastered hero against the potential advantages of choosing a character best suited to the current match situation. The introduction of ban & pick is expected to increase the excitement and strategic depth of Honor of Kings esports, attracting a wider audience.

A Strategic Shift
While not the originator of the ban & pick system, Honor of Kings' implementation distinguishes itself. Unlike other MOBAs (like League of Legends) or tactical shooters (like Rainbow Six Siege), where bans are typically pre-determined, Honor of Kings places the decision directly in the hands of individual players, emphasizing teamwork and adaptability. This innovative approach promises to elevate the competitive landscape and enhance the viewing experience for fans.
