This footage confirms a surprising twist revealed in the D23 trailer: Daredevil and Kingpin, longtime adversaries, are teaming up against a common enemy. This unlikely alliance appears driven by a new villain, the art-obsessed serial killer, Muse.
Who is Muse, and why does this superhuman murderer force such bitter rivals to collaborate? Let's delve into this twisted Marvel villain.

Who Is Muse?
Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil's rogues' gallery, was created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney, debuting in 2016's Daredevil #11. Soule himself confirmed Muse's appearance in the D23 footage.
Muse is a chilling villain reminiscent of Hannibal. A prolific serial killer, he views murder as the ultimate artistic expression. His debut saw him create a mural using the blood of a hundred missing persons, later composing a piece by arranging the corpses of six Inhumans.
Muse poses a unique threat to Daredevil; his body acts as a sensory black hole, disrupting Matt Murdock's radar sense. Combined with superhuman strength, speed, and a chilling aptitude for murder, Muse is one of Daredevil's deadliest foes.

Muse quickly clashes with Daredevil and Blindspot, a rivalry escalating when Muse blinds Blindspot. After Daredevil captures him, Muse self-mutilates, breaking his own fingers to prevent further artistic creation. However, his hands heal, and he escapes, resuming his bloody rampage. He becomes obsessed with New York's vigilantes, creating twisted tributes to figures like the Punisher, coinciding with Mayor Wilson Fisk's crackdown on vigilante activity.
This leads to a rematch with Blindspot, who uses the power of The Beast to defeat Muse. Regretting his overshadowed story, Muse commits suicide by self-immolation in Daredevil #600 (2018). Despite his death, his return remains a possibility in the ever-evolving Marvel Universe.
Muse in Daredevil: Born Again
The D23 and subsequent trailers confirm Muse's appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, though the actor portraying him remains undisclosed. He appears in a costume mirroring his comic book counterpart: a white mask and bodysuit with red "bloody tears." Several shots in the NYCC trailer depict him battling Daredevil.
This indicates that Born Again, while sharing its name with the iconic 1986 storyline, draws inspiration from more modern Daredevil comics. The original comic focuses on Fisk discovering Daredevil's identity and his subsequent destruction of Murdock's life. The show, while centered on the Murdock-Fisk rivalry, seems to take a different path, especially considering Fisk already knows Daredevil's identity in the MCU.
Born Again appears to be setting up an unlikely alliance between Daredevil and Fisk. A diner scene shows Matt threatening Fisk, prompting Fisk's reply: "Is that coming from Matt Murdock… or your darker half?" A significant new threat in New York City compels this unlikely partnership.

Could Muse be that threat? The MCU's Daredevil world seems to be aligning with the tone of Soule and Zdarsky's Daredevil comics. The Echo post-credits scene shows Fisk aiming for the mayor's office; the Born Again trailer suggests his election, utilizing his resources and charisma to win over New Yorkers.
Following the comics, Fisk might campaign on ending vigilantism. Muse, as in the comics, directly opposes this anti-vigilante stance. His violent acts glorify figures like the Punisher.
Muse could be the common enemy uniting Daredevil and Mayor Fisk. Daredevil seeks to remove a killer from the streets, while Fisk aims to eliminate a threat to his mayoral reign. Daredevil might be forced into an alliance with Fisk, despite Fisk's crusade against heroes.
Muse could very well be the common enemy that unites Daredevil and Mayor Fisk in the new series. We also know that Born Again will feature other vigilantes like Jon Bernthal's Punisher and White Tiger, likely caught in the crossfire of Fisk's anti-vigilante campaign. Fisk's task force will probably target the Punisher and White Tiger, while Muse glorifies them through his art.
Ultimately, Born Again might hinge on the Daredevil-Fisk rivalry as much as the comic, but Muse emerges as the most pressing threat. His powers and bloodlust make him a formidable opponent, necessitating an unlikely alliance with Mayor Fisk.
