Crunchyroll has recently enriched its Android vault with the addition of Kardboard Kings, a captivating single-player management game that lets you step into the shoes of a card shop owner. Originally launched for PC in February 2022, this game was developed by Henry’s House, Oscar Brittain, and Rob Gross, and published by Akupara Games. Now, thanks to Crunchyroll, it's available on mobile devices for free to Crunchyroll members.
What’s the Deal in Kardboard Kings?
In Kardboard Kings, you assume the role of Harry Hsu, who has inherited a card shop from his father, a renowned card collector and former champion of the legendary card game Warlock. As the new proprietor, Harry embarks on a thrilling journey of buying, selling, and trading cards.
Assisting Harry is his trusted friend, Giuseppe, a charismatic cockatoo with a sharp eye for lucrative deals. Together, they manage the shop situated in a picturesque seaside setting. Your goal is to satisfy every customer, though you can also opt for a more mischievous approach by overcharging them to boost your profits.
The game is filled with charming characters brimming with wit and sarcasm, often referencing other card games and anime. The cards themselves are a delight, featuring over 100 unique designs with quirky illustrations, including shiny variants.
What’s the Gameplay Like?
The gameplay begins with the basic principles of commerce: buying low and selling high to generate profits. As you delve deeper, you'll encounter variables such as card conditions, set rarities, and even the popularity of abilities and foil finishes, all of which influence a card's value.
Kardboard Kings introduces a roguelite deckbuilding mode on Card Game Island, where you can challenge formidable duelists. Additionally, you can organize tournaments, host booster pack parties, or hold clearance sales to manage your inventory effectively.
If you're a Crunchyroll member, you can download Kardboard Kings from the Google Play Store and immerse yourself in this delightful card shop management adventure.
