Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure title Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a Sony offer to make the game a PlayStation exclusive.
Pearl Abyss Prioritizes Independent Publishing for Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert Release Date and Platforms Still Unconfirmed
Pearl Abyss remains committed to self-publishing Crimson Desert. In a statement to Eurogamer, the developer confirmed their independent publishing plans, previously announced during a public earnings call. While acknowledging and appreciating ongoing discussions with various partners, Pearl Abyss emphasized their dedication to self-publishing.
A playable Crimson Desert build will be showcased to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November. The developer also clarified that no release date has been set, refuting any speculation based on unconfirmed reports.
Reports from a September investor meeting indicated Sony attempted to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially delaying or preventing an Xbox release. However, Pearl Abyss opted for self-publishing, believing it would yield greater profitability.
While official confirmation is pending, Crimson Desert is anticipated to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox sometime during Q2 2025. The final platform lineup and release date remain unannounced.
