The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like beast reminiscent of a Cockatrice, prefers fiery breath to petrification—thankfully! Its mid-size makes it vulnerable to most weapons, but its area-of-effect attacks might favor ranged weapons for less experienced hunters.
While its tail sweeps and strikes can inflict damage, the most potent attack is its tail slam. This involves a dramatic upward swing before a powerful downward strike. Sidestepping or blocking effectively negates this threat. However, its fire attacks are the real danger, dealing initial damage, inflicting burning status (draining health), and potentially igniting the ground.
These fire attacks lack obvious tells. One attack sees it rear its head, roar, and fling a flame from its tail. Another involves a sweeping fire attack after a head and tail raise. It can also incorporate this fire attack into a charging attack, running towards you before veering to unleash fire. Ranged hunters should backpedal to avoid this attack.
How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Bring a Shock Trap, a Pitfall Trap, and at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap suffices, a backup is crucial in case of escape or interference from other monsters.
Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (limping, or the skull icon on the mini-map is consistently fading), it's time to trap it. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away for easier capture. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and deploy two Tranq Bombs for a successful capture.
