While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news for fans – development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.
This update isn't just about technical improvements; it boosts the multiplayer experience. Support for multiplayer modifications has been added, with compatibility for mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play now allows all players to collect items, and a spectator mode has been introduced for players awaiting revival. Network code optimization further enhances the multiplayer experience. The mod loader has also received an upgrade, now capable of handling more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust various gameplay elements.
Players will have extensive control over enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other factors like game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirms that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives in DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
